A clinical psychologist is someone who a has a doctorate degree in clinical psychology, the science of understanding and relieving people's psychologically-based problems. They have 4-6 years of rigorous post college education and are state licensed to practice their field. Clinical psychologists work with individuals to promote well being and personal development through counseling.
What is the difference between a Psychologist and a psychiatrist?
Both psychologists and psychiatrists are mental health specialists. A psychologist spends years training to treat with psychotherapy (talking to people, counseling them towards change), while a psychiatrist spends years training to treat with prescription medication. In a broad sense, psychologist are psycho-therapists, whereas psychiatrists are psycho-pharmacologists.
What's the difference between a Psychologist and a marriage/family counselor or social worker?
The main difference is the number of years spent in education and the depth of training. Most marriage/family counselors and social workers have earned a masters degree with 2 years of post-college training. Psychologists have earned a doctorate degree with 4-6 years of specialty training.

A Christian Psychologist is a professional who has received specialized theology training (in addition to the required training and state licensing for Clinical Psychology) on integrating Biblical teaching in their therapy to bring people to better mental and spiritual health. Sessions start on the hour and last 55 minutes.
How long does someone stay in therapy?
It is difficult to predict how long the therapy process will take for a given person, but most people report feeling significantly better after about ten session and have a good handle on their struggles after about twenty sessions.
